Atlantis : The story of Atlantis begins quite literally with two of Plato’s dialogues, Timaeus and Critias. Atlantis is a legendary island, associated with a utopian society set in the Atlantic Ocean and ruled by the sons of Poseidon. After many years, the divine blood of the rulers became diluted with the blood of mortals, making Atlantis weaker and causing it to be defeated in a war with the Greeks. Atlantis was then hit by a great earthquake and sank to the bottom of the sea. There are many theories as to the exact location and destiny of Atlantis. These accounts are the only known written records on the planet, formerly known as Earth, which refer specifically to a lost civilization called “Atlantis.” No one yet has ever proven the existence of such a land, nor located it with any precision.
